Cost to register a car after moving to Montana

What the official rule establishes

Registration and title
Title and register the vehicle through the county treasurer within 60 days after establishing Montana residency.
Tax and fees
The county treasurer calculates title and registration charges, local-option tax where applicable, and vehicle-age or value-based fees. Confirm the county amount before filing.
Inspection or VIN
No single statewide inspection amount applies to every new-resident vehicle.
Insurance
Carry proof of Montana-compliant insurance while driving. Montana MVD says proof is not required to complete the registration transaction, but coverage remains required for operation.
