Cost to register a car after moving to Vermont

What the official rule establishes
- Registration and title
- Register a vehicle principally operated in Vermont within 60 days after moving to the state.
- Tax and fees
- Bring proof of prior purchase-and-use tax paid. Vermont's tax credit and amount due depend on the prior jurisdiction and vehicle facts, in addition to title and registration fees.
- Inspection or VIN
- Complete Vermont's vehicle inspection within 15 days after registration unless the vehicle is covered by a stated exception.
- Insurance
- Maintain Vermont-compliant automobile insurance before operating and registering the vehicle.
Do not treat a generic estimate as a tax determination. Vehicle value, purchase timing, trade credit, prior tax, county, weight, plate type, and local fees can change the total.
