Cost to register a car after moving to Wisconsin

What the official rule establishes
- Registration and title
- Apply for a Wisconsin title and license plates when residency begins. Eligible same-owner out-of-state title transfers can be started through the state's title and plate application.
- Tax and fees
- Wisconsin's new-resident application distinguishes vehicles owned for at least 90 days and provides a credit path for qualifying sales tax already paid to another state.
- Inspection or VIN
- No single statewide inspection amount applies to every new-resident vehicle.
- Insurance
- Keep automobile liability coverage in force before operating in Wisconsin; all Wisconsin drivers must carry insurance or another permitted form of security.
