Keep or sell decision

Sell a car before moving out of Vermont

A sale can remove destination transport and registration costs, but it also creates a title, plate, registration, insurance, and possible tax closeout in Vermont.

Update Vermont DMV within 30 days of the move

After the destination registration is active, notify Vermont DMV of the new mailing and physical address within 30 days. The corrected-registration form can update the address across DMV records. Keep a copy of the submitted form with the new registration.
