The state rules behind the ledger
- Destination title and registration
- Ohio gives new residents 30 days to transfer the vehicle title and registration. Convert the out-of-state title through a county title office before registering at a deputy registrar.
- Destination tax and fees
- Plan for title, inspection, registration, deputy-registrar, and possible county permissive-tax charges; confirm sales or use tax treatment with the title office.
- Inspection or VIN
- An out-of-state VIN inspection is required for the Ohio title. Registration also requires an E-Check certificate when the destination county is covered.
- Old-state recovery
- Mississippi says the registration credit cannot be used after an out-of-state move and does not issue a move-out refund.
