Navigant Credit Union title transfer: move your financed car to another state
Start with the lender's current instructions. Then match them to the new state and build the request before the title moves.
Start with Navigant Credit Union's process
The destination state controls registration and still decides what document it can use and where it must go. The lender handles the title it holds, and the two paths need to meet before the state can finish the transfer.
- 01Start here
Visit the destination motor vehicle office and ask whether it must receive the existing title. When it does, Navigant Credit Union requires the motor vehicle office to send the title request.
- 02Use the approved channel
Have the destination office send its request directly to Navigant Credit Union. Use Navigant's Contact Center at 401-233-4700 to confirm the current request route and receipt before relying on the title shipment.
- 03Plan for the handoff
Navigant says to allow a minimum of four to six weeks for the destination motor vehicle office to receive the title. It mails the title directly to the office that made the request.
NewState Drive is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Navigant Credit Union. Confirm instructions inside your lender account before sending sensitive information.
After you build the request notes and handoff checklist below, send the request through the lender's approved channel. You remain in control of every lender and agency submission. Optional paid help prepares the request and destination packet and handles general follow-up, and you still handle account sign-in, authorization, signatures, payments, inspections, and in-person visits.
Where are you in this?
Pick the row that fits. Every link in it is free.
- I still owe on it and I'm moving
- I paid it off and the title or lien release hasn't come
- I already sent the request and nothing happened
Where is the car moving?
Some states want an original title, others accept a copy, lien letter, or registration-only path, and some require the local office to start the request. We will combine Navigant Credit Union's move path with the destination state's title rule. No VIN or account number is collected.
Every step above stays free.
If the lender is slow, or the new state keeps rejecting the request
- Supported follow-up through the handoff milestones
- Tracking of title delivery and the state's acknowledgement
- A private case with the final proof check
- You step in for account sign-in, authorizations, signatures, payments, inspections and in-person visits
Keep the lender request and receipt together
Add the two states to keep the request, lender send status, destination receipt, and final proof together.
Keep your place and return later
Track your progress, dates, title requests, and receipts to keep. We will email a private return link.
