A state title change is not a lien release

Santander publishes both processes on its title page, but they solve different problems.

Loan still active
Ask the new state titling office to make the formal title request, then send that request to Santander's Titles Department through its published mail or fax channel. The lien stays on the title.
Loan paid in full
Santander may notify the state electronically, mail the paper title, or mail a Release of Lien document. Use MyAccount or Santander's contact channel to confirm the address before waiting for the document.
Electronic state change
Santander says printing an electronic title averages four to six weeks. After Santander receives the printed title, it says the new state should receive it within 15 business days.
Do not send private data here
Keep the account number and vehicle identifiers inside the state and Santander channels. NewState Drive does not need them to explain the handoff.
Why both sides matter

A lender request is only useful if the new state can use it

Some states want an original title. Others accept a copy, lien letter, or registration-only path. Some require the local office to start the request. The builder checks the destination first.

Is a Santander state title change a lien release?
No. A state change moves the title record while an active Santander lien remains attached. A lien release shows that Santander's security interest has ended after the account is paid in full.
How does Santander send a lien release after payoff?
Santander says the result depends on the title record. It may notify the state electronically, mail a paper title, or mail a Release of Lien document. Confirm the mailing address in MyAccount and ask the state whether a separate paper-title request is required.
How do I contact Santander Consumer USA about an out-of-state title transfer?

Will Santander Consumer USA register the car in the new state?
The destination motor vehicle agency controls registration. The lender or lessor handles the title or ownership document it holds. The two paths need to meet before the state can finish the transfer.
