Build the exact request

Where is the car moving?

We will combine Virginia Credit Union's move path with the destination state's title rule. No VIN or account number is collected.

What the lender says

Start with Virginia Credit Union's process

The destination state still decides what document it can use and where it must go.

  1. 01Start here

Bring the current registration to the destination DMV and ask how it requests a lienholder-held title. Virginia Credit Union says the state can mail or fax the request, and some states give the form to the borrower to forward.

  2. 02Use the approved channel

Send the state request to LendingOperationsLoanServicing@vacu.org or fax 804-267-1438. The VACU Title Department is available at 804-323-6000, extension 101710; its lienholder address is PO Box 90010, Richmond, VA 23225-9010.

  3. 03Plan for the handoff

VACU does not publish one nationwide state-change turnaround. New York and Rhode Island require a signed request and use certified title copies plus a permission letter, so confirm the destination-specific packet before sending.

NewState Drive is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Virginia Credit Union. Confirm instructions inside yourlender account before sending sensitive information.

Why both sides matter

A lender request is only useful if the new state can use it

Some states want an original title. Others accept a copy, lien letter, or registration-only path. Some require the local office to start the request. The builder checks the destination first.

Virginia Credit Union move questions

How do I contact Virginia Credit Union about an out-of-state title transfer?
Send the state request to LendingOperationsLoanServicing@vacu.org or fax 804-267-1438. The VACU Title Department is available at 804-323-6000, extension 101710; its lienholder address is PO Box 90010, Richmond, VA 23225-9010.
Will Virginia Credit Union register the car in the new state?
The destination motor vehicle agency controls registration. The lender or lessor handles the title or ownership document it holds. The two paths need to meet before the state can finish the transfer.
Can NewState Drive send the request for me?
Use the request notes and handoff checklist, then send the request through the lender's approved channel. You remain in control of every lender and agency submission.
Should I enter my VIN or account number here?
No. Add sensitive identifiers only inside the lender's own secure account, form, fax, mail, or other approved channel.
