Start with Westlake Financial's process

The destination state controls registration and still decides what document it can use and where it must go. The lender handles the title it holds, and the two paths need to meet before the state can finish the transfer.

  1. 01Start here

    Notify the destination motor vehicle, tax collector, or title office. Westlake says that office generally must issue the written request for the state change.

  2. 02Use the approved channel

    Have the destination office send its letter of request to Westlake Financial, P.O. Box 997592, Sacramento, CA 95899 (overnight: DT Westlake, Attention: Title Maintenance, 9750 Goethe Road, Sacramento, CA 95827), by fax to (937) 481-5312, or by email to CMS-camaintenance@vitu.com. Westlake accepts only requests sent by the office. For New York moves, Westlake asks for your own signed letter by email to titlechanges@westlakefinancial.com.

  3. 03Plan for the handoff

    Westlake says the destination office may need up to 40 days to receive the documents, depending on delivery time and the title type on file. Start well before the tag deadline.
