Spouse and dependents

For driver's licensing, Idaho Code 49-302 explicitly extends the nonresident active-duty exemption to the servicemember's spouse or dependent son/daughter who holds a valid home-jurisdiction license. Idaho's official 'New to Idaho' guidance likewise groups 'members of the military on active duty and dependents' together for the license exemption. Vehicle-registration treatment of spouses specifically could not be confirmed since the underlying registration exemption itself is unconfirmed.

Students attending an Idaho college or university and members of the military on active duty and dependents do not need to apply for an Idaho driver's license if they have a valid out-of-state license.

Gold Star License Plates - No Specialty Fee for Surviving Spouses/Parents

Idaho waives the specialty plate fee for Gold Star license plates for surviving spouses and parents of service members killed during active military service in a period of war recognized by Congress.

Surviving spouses and parents of deceased service members will not pay the specialty plate fees for gold star plates.

Idaho's official 'New to Idaho' page states that new residents generally must obtain an Idaho driver's license and title/register their vehicle within 30 days of moving to Idaho (regardless of whether their out-of-state credentials have expired), except that active-duty military personnel and their dependents holding a valid out-of-state driver's license are not required to get an Idaho license.
