Move a Trailer to Florida
Use the trailer's weight, construction, and ownership documents to choose the Florida title and registration path.
Prepare the trailer before the office visit
The government instructions are free. We show a private provider only when it is authorized for this vehicle and task.
- 1. Check when the application becomes due
Do not assume the tow vehicle's record covers the trailer. Confirm the Florida registration trigger and prepare the trailer's own ownership and weight evidence before use.
- 2. Prepare the correct ownership record
The title path depends on the trailer type, weight, origin documents, and whether it is assembled, homemade, or a vessel trailer.
- 3. Complete identification and inspection
A used trailer that has never been registered in Florida can require a certified weight slip when its documents do not show net weight. A trailer without a VIN receives a Florida trailer identification number during registration.
- 4. Register the correct vehicle class
Register the trailer separately from the tow vehicle. Florida trailers at 1,999 pounds or less use different title and ownership-document rules from heavier trailers.
Check the exact vehicle class
A boat and its trailer are two separate vehicles with different records and identification numbers.
