Put PIRP after the New York license and insurance work
A DMV-approved course can change how New York counts points for a possible suspension and reduce part of a qualifying auto premium. It does not replace any moving, ticket, or suspension requirement.
- 01Finish the New York license and policy handoff
Use this after the New York license and policy are in place. Confirm who the insurer treats as the vehicle's principal operator before enrolling for the insurance reduction.
- 02Choose a DMV-approved provider
Check the provider on the current New York DMV list before paying. Online courses use identity validation.
- 03Send the completion record where it belongs
Confirm electronic DMV reporting with the course provider and give the completion certificate to the insurer for the insurance reduction.
What PIRP changes
- License-point calculation
- Up to four points are subtracted only when New York calculates a possible suspension. The tickets and points stay on the driving record, and the course does not undo a suspension or revocation already in effect.
- Insurance base rate
- Successful completion provides a 10% reduction for three years in the base rate of the motorist's current automobile liability, no-fault, and collision premiums, subject to the state's principal-operator rules.
Verify the provider before enrolling
The DMV list identifies approved online providers and their identity checks. Use any provider on the current list, and make sure the company named at checkout is the approved course provider you intended to use.

A ticket response still follows the instructions and deadline on the ticket.
An active suspension or revocation is not undone by later course completion.
The moving sequence still requires the New York license, insurance, registration, title, and inspection work.
