What to do with Arizona plates after moving to Minnesota
The answer can be return, cancel, destroy, recycle, or keep. Follow the reviewed Arizona instruction only after the Minnesota registration and insurance handoff are safe.
Complete the replacement record
Register a passenger vehicle, motorcycle, utility trailer, or house trailer within 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident. Registration is due immediately if the prior registration has expired.
Bring the insurer name, policy number, and policy expiration date for the registration transaction.
Keep proof while Arizona receives the new-state registration notice
After the destination registration is active, keep that registration proof with the Arizona record. Arizona says you do not need to notify MVD because the other state should send notice automatically; until that happens, respond to any Arizona renewal or insurance-verification notice rather than assuming the record is closed.
