What to do with Arizona plates after moving to Nevada

The answer can be return, cancel, destroy, recycle, or keep. Follow the reviewed Arizona instruction only after the Nevada registration and insurance handoff are safe.

Nevada comes first

Complete the replacement record

Register the vehicle within 30 days after establishing residency. Nevada's major offices can process a noncommercial license and registration during the same visit.

Obtain Nevada evidence of insurance before registration; Nevada DMV does not accept an out-of-state policy for this transaction.

Arizona closeout

Keep proof while Arizona receives the new-state registration notice

After the destination registration is active, keep that registration proof with the Arizona record. Arizona says you do not need to notify MVD because the other state should send notice automatically; until that happens, respond to any Arizona renewal or insurance-verification notice rather than assuming the record is closed.
