What to do with Missouri plates after moving to Arkansas

The answer can be return, cancel, destroy, recycle, or keep. Follow the reviewed Missouri instruction only after the Arkansas registration and insurance handoff are safe.

Complete the replacement record

Title and register the vehicle at an Arkansas state revenue office within 60 calendar days after becoming a resident.

Bring proof of insurance for the registration transaction and keep the policy supporting the prior registration active until that registration is safely closed.

Destroy, recycle, or return unused Missouri plates

After the destination registration is active, remove the Missouri plates. Missouri says unused or expired plates may be destroyed and recycled where you are, returned to a Missouri license office, or mailed to the Department of Revenue's License Plate Surrender unit. Make an unexpired plate unusable and retain the new registration proof before disposal.
