What to do with New Mexico plates after moving to Arkansas

The answer can be return, cancel, destroy, recycle, or keep. Follow the reviewed New Mexico instruction only after the Arkansas registration and insurance handoff are safe.

Arkansas comes first

Complete the replacement record

Title and register the vehicle at an Arkansas state revenue office within 60 calendar days after becoming a resident.

Bring proof of insurance for the registration transaction and keep the policy supporting the prior registration active until that registration is safely closed.

Bridge the New Mexico insurance record while its registration remains active

If the New Mexico registration still remains active after the move, do not rely on an out-of-state policy appearing automatically in its insurance database. Submit signed Form MVD-11268 with proof of the out-of-state insurance and residency, and repeat it at each policy renewal for as long as the vehicle remains registered in New Mexico. Keep the affidavit packet and delivery proof with the destination registration.
