FLHSMV says you may be considered a resident when you start employment in Florida, enroll your children in Florida public schools, register to vote, file for a homestead exemption, or live in Florida for more than six consecutive months.

FLHSMV says to get insurance from a Florida insurance agent licensed to sell insurance in Florida in order to title and register, so have Florida coverage in place before the vehicle visit.

Bridge the New Mexico insurance record while its registration remains active

If the New Mexico registration still remains active after the move, do not rely on an out-of-state policy appearing automatically in its insurance database. Submit signed Form MVD-11268 with proof of the out-of-state insurance and residency, and repeat it at each policy renewal for as long as the vehicle remains registered in New Mexico. Keep the affidavit packet and delivery proof with the destination registration.
