What to do with Oregon plates after moving to Ohio

The answer can be return, cancel, destroy, recycle, or keep. Follow the reviewed Oregon instruction only after the Ohio registration and insurance handoff are safe.

Ohio comes first

Complete the replacement record

Ohio gives new residents 30 days to transfer the vehicle title and registration. Convert the out-of-state title through a county title office before registering at a deputy registrar.

Maintain financial responsibility accepted in Ohio while the former registration remains active and before operating on the Ohio registration.

Update the Oregon DMV address after the move

After the destination registration is active, update the address on the Oregon DMV record within 30 days, online or by phone. Oregon does not automatically send a new registration card after an address change, so write the new address on the existing card or request a replacement if you need one. Keep the update confirmation with the new registration.
