What to do with Oregon plates after moving to Washington
The answer can be return, cancel, destroy, recycle, or keep. Follow the reviewed Oregon instruction only after the Washington registration and insurance handoff are safe.
Complete the replacement record
Register the vehicle within the same 30-day period at a separate vehicle licensing office.
Maintain continuous coverage accepted for the Washington-registered vehicle.
Update the Oregon DMV address after the move
After the destination registration is active, update the address on the Oregon DMV record within 30 days, online or by phone. Oregon does not automatically send a new registration card after an address change, so write the new address on the existing card or request a replacement if you need one. Keep the update confirmation with the new registration.
