Bottom line
Overall status: Next: send your request to the lender
Primary blocker: Chase Auto has not been asked for the release, so the Texas title still shows the lien.
Do not do yet: Do not pay for a duplicate or bonded title, or sign an affidavit, until Chase Auto's release and the Texas record have been checked. Send the VIN, account numbers, and signed forms only through the lender's or the state's own channel.
Customer-reported timing
No next deadline or appointment date was supplied in the case workspace.
| Item | Reviewed timing |
|---|---|
| Texas lender release deadline | For consumer and commercial vehicle loans covered by the Finance Code, the lienholder must release the lien within a reasonable time not later than the 10th day after payoff is tendered, and the TxDMV owner page says 10 days after receipt of payment. (Tex. Transp. Code 501.115(a); Tex. Fin. Code 348.408 and 353.405(b)) |
| Chase Auto published release time | up to 45 days after the final payment posts for the title or lien release to arrive, counting mail time and state DMV processing |
| Texas clear-title fee | $28 or $33 title fee, depending on the county, paid at the county tax office |
Readiness register
Customer-reported stages describe evidence and progress, not agency approval. A lender's release is not treated as the state record until the record shows it.
| Step | Assessment | Source-backed requirement | Customer-reported evidence | Next action | Proof to retain |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lien release | Next: send your request to the lender | TxDMV says the lienholder has 10 days after receiving payment to release the lien. For a paper title, the lienholder mails the title and a release of lien letter back to the owner, who applies at the county tax office to remove the lien. For an electronic lien, the lienholder releases it through TxDMV, the record converts to a paper title, and it is mailed to the owner with no action needed. | Release not requested from the lender yet | Ask Chase Auto to release the lien through its published channel and confirm what it will send after payoff: the signed title, a lien release letter, or an electronic release to Texas. To get a lien release document, contact Chase Auto by mail, by phone, or through the Secure Message Center after logging in, and include your full name, loan account number, vehicle year/make/model, VIN, and the mailing address you want it sent to. | Lien release letter, signed title, or electronic release confirmation, plus the Texas record showing no lienholder |
Texas lien-release path
Electronic lien program: Electronic lien program optional for lenders
After payoff: TxDMV says the lienholder has 10 days after receiving payment to release the lien. For a paper title, the lienholder mails the title and a release of lien letter back to the owner, who applies at the county tax office to remove the lien. For an electronic lien, the lienholder releases it through TxDMV, the record converts to a paper title, and it is mailed to the owner with no action needed.
Owner steps
- For a paper title, get the title and an original release of lien letter from each lienholder.
- Complete Form 130-U (Application for Texas Title and/or Registration).
- Take the title, the release of lien letter, and Form 130-U to your county tax office and pay the title fee.
- For an electronic lien, wait for the paper title TxDMV mails to the recorded owner after the lender's electronic release.
- Keep the original release letter; TxDMV does not accept faxes or photocopies of a release when a lien is still on record for a certified title copy.
State form: No separate state lien-release form was found in the reviewed sources.
Clear-title fee: $28 or $33 title fee, depending on the county, paid at the county tax office
Lender deadline: For consumer and commercial vehicle loans covered by the Finance Code, the lienholder must release the lien within a reasonable time not later than the 10th day after payoff is tendered, and the TxDMV owner page says 10 days after receipt of payment. (Tex. Transp. Code 501.115(a); Tex. Fin. Code 348.408 and 353.405(b))
Check the state record
The Texas sources reviewed for this report don't list an online lien lookup for owners. Ask the title agency for the title or lien record.
If the lien is gone: follow the owner steps above to get your title.
If the lien still shows: the record may not be updated yet. Ask the lender when and how it sent the release, then ask for the release in writing. The Request letter section has a letter for this.
Chase Auto release path
After payoff: Chase says that after your final payment posts you should allow up to 45 days to receive your title or lien release, counting mail time and state DMV processing. In paperless (electronic title) states Chase electronically notifies the DMV of the lien release and the state's motor vehicle agency then mails a lien-free title on its own timeline; Florida differs, because the title stays electronic unless you request a paper copy from the state. Chase sends title or lien release documents to the mailing address on your auto billing statements, so it tells you to verify and update that address before you pay off.
Request channel: To get a lien release document, contact Chase Auto by mail, by phone, or through the Secure Message Center after logging in, and include your full name, loan account number, vehicle year/make/model, VIN, and the mailing address you want it sent to.
Published release time: up to 45 days after the final payment posts for the title or lien release to arrive, counting mail time and state DMV processing
If it did not arrive: For a lost or damaged title, Chase says to contact it for a lien release document (mail, phone, or Secure Message Center) with your name, account number, vehicle details, VIN and desired mailing address. When moving states, Chase says to contact the new state's DMV and give it either Chase's fax number or Chase's mailing address. In Florida, Chase says to request a paper title from the state.

Lien-release request worksheet
Complete this worksheet outside the NewState Drive workspace, then send the finished request only through Chase Auto's approved channel. Do not send account numbers, a full VIN, or identity documents to NewState Drive.
Texas rule after payoff: TxDMV says the lienholder has 10 days after receiving payment to release the lien. For a paper title, the lienholder mails the title and a release of lien letter back to the owner, who applies at the county tax office to remove the lien. For an electronic lien, the lienholder releases it through TxDMV, the record converts to a paper title, and it is mailed to the owner with no action needed.

Unsigned request cover sheet
- Add the borrower's legal name and contact details only in the lender-approved channel.
- Add the vehicle description and full VIN only where the lender requires it; do not place them in this workspace.
- State that the loan is paid off and give the payoff date.
- Ask for the lien release on the Texas title and name the item requested.
- Name the delivery address, or confirm the electronic release to Texas.
- Ask for the release date, method, tracking, and a duplicate lien release letter if the first did not arrive.
- Keep a copy of the customer-signed request and every lender response.
Request language: Use the letter in the Request letter section below. Fill in its bracketed parts yourself, then send it through Chase Auto's approved channel.
30-day lien-release cadence
- Before sending: confirm the release item, recipient, state form, and any lender fee.
- After customer submission: save the customer-signed request and record the request as submitted. Do not label it released yet.
- After three business days without acknowledgement: ask the lender to confirm that the request reached its title or payoff department and whether anything is missing.
- When the lender reports releasing the lien: get the release date and method, and keep that milestone separate from delivery and the state record.
- After reported delivery or electronic release: check the Texas title record for the released lien.
- Before day 30: record the final proof check. A missing, rejected, conflicting, or still-unconfirmed release becomes a gap or escalation outcome, not a completed release.
Request letter
You have not asked Chase Auto for the release yet. This letter asks it to confirm in writing that the loan is paid in full and the lien is released, when the release or title was sent, how, and where.
Use the request channel in the Chase Auto release path above first. This letter is your written request or follow-up and does not replace that channel. Fill in the bracketed details yourself, including the date you send it. NewState Drive does not collect your VIN, loan number or address; add them only on the copy you send.

Evidence checkpoints
- Chase Auto's payoff confirmation and payoff date
- The release date and whether Chase Auto released electronically or by mail
- Tracking or delivery evidence for any mailed title or lien release letter
- The Texas title record or clear title showing no lienholder
Stop ordinary coordination when
- The lender says the loan is not paid in full or disputes the payoff.
- No lender, successor, or servicer will sign a release and the state path requires a court order or bonded title.
- The title shows another lienholder, an ownership dispute, or a salvage or rebuilt brand.
- Someone asks for a legal demand, representation, or a signature NewState Drive cannot provide.
Included follow-up
Structured case updates plus lender and state milestone coordination through one final proof check, for up to 30 calendar days after the initial report is delivered.
Proof to keep
Retain copies of the following where applicable:
- the lender's payoff confirmation and payoff date;
- the lien release letter, signed title, or electronic release confirmation;
- tracking or delivery evidence for anything mailed;
- the Texas clear title or title record showing no lienholder; and
- any state receipt or case number.

Service boundary
Included: One live lien-release case for a paid-off loan on one personal vehicle titled in one state. NewState Drive identifies the lien-release path for the titling state and the lender from official sources, prepares the lien-release or clear-title request and any state form for the customer to send and sign, tracks the lender and state responses, and checks that the title or state record shows the lien released. The customer steps in for account authentication, signatures, payments, or in-person visits, then the case returns to us.
Not included: Lender or agency representation; title custody or holding originals; signing or filing forms; legal demands to the lender; legal, tax, or insurance advice; government, lender, shipping, or filing fees; and any guarantee of lien release, a clear title, or timing. Lenders that are out of business or merged, court orders, and bonded titles are not included; those cases are reviewed and quoted separately.
This report is based on the case details supplied in the private case workspace and the official and lender material available on the recheck date. The lender and the Texas title office control the release. NewState Drive does not file, sign, represent the customer, hold originals, or make legal demands, and does not guarantee a lien release, a clear title, cost, or processing time. Confirm each step in this report directly with the lender or the state before acting.
