Switch car insurance from Arizona to Alabama

Activate coverage Alabama will accept before the registration transaction. Do not cancel the Arizonapolicy until the new registration is active and the old record is closed correctly.

    Keep Arizona registration-supported coverage active while the vehicle is still recorded there.

    Activate Alabama coverage

    Put Alabama liability insurance in place before applying for the registration.

    Complete the destination registration

    Register the vehicle within 30 days after it enters Alabama. Vehicles covered by Alabama's title law must be titled before registration.

    Close Arizona

    After the destination registration is active, keep that registration proof with the Arizona record. Arizona says you do not need to notify MVD because the other state should send notice automatically; until that happens, respond to any Arizona renewal or insurance-verification notice rather than assuming the record is closed.

    End or rewrite the old policy

    Confirm effective dates with both insurers after the old registration is safely closed.
