Switch car insurance from Arkansas to New Mexico

Activate coverage New Mexico will accept before the registration transaction. Do not cancel the Arkansaspolicy until the new registration is active and the old record is closed correctly.

    Keep the old record supported

    Keep Arkansas registration-supported coverage active while the vehicle is still recorded there.

    Activate New Mexico coverage

    Bring a current insurance card, policy copy, or insurer letter showing the required liability coverage.

  3. 03
    Complete the destination registration

    Title and register at an MVD field office with the ownership document, odometer reading, identity, two New Mexico residency proofs, and insurance evidence. The current new-resident page does not publish a general day-count deadline.

    Close Arkansas

    After the destination registration is active, use Arkansas DFA's Change Your Renewal Address service to update the mailing address on the vehicle registration. Save the confirmation with the new registration so later Arkansas notices do not disappear at the old address.

    End or rewrite the old policy

    Confirm effective dates with both insurers after the old registration is safely closed.
