Switch car insurance from Connecticut to Florida
Activate coverage Florida will accept before the registration transaction. Do not cancel the Connecticutpolicy until the new registration is active and the old record is closed correctly.
- 01Keep the old record supported
Keep Connecticut registration-supported coverage active while the vehicle is still recorded there.
- 02Activate Florida coverage
Use coverage from a carrier licensed to do business in Florida before registration.
- 03Complete the destination registration
Title and register through a county tax collector or motor vehicle service center after the license and insurance are in place.
- 04Close Connecticut
After the vehicle is registered in the new state, cancel the Connecticut registration and save the plate-disposition receipt. Connecticut says insurance must remain while the registration is active.
- 05End or rewrite the old policy
Confirm effective dates with both insurers after the old registration is safely closed.
Check the policy for the new home
Home or renters coverage is a separate optional follow-up. It does not replace destination auto insurance.

NewState Drive keeps the state sequence, official requirements, and cancellation warning visible.
The licensed provider collects driver and vehicle details, explains coverage, returns quotes, and handles binding.
You choose the policy and confirm effective dates. A new policy cannot retroactively fix an earlier lapse.
