    Keep Idaho registration-supported coverage active while the vehicle is still recorded there.

    Activate Hawaii coverage

    Arrange Hawaii coverage before the safety-check and registration sequence. County instructions require a Hawaii insurance card for the inspection transaction.

    Complete the destination registration

    Vehicle transactions are county-administered. In Hawaii County, obtain an out-of-state permit within 30 days after the vehicle arrives or switch to Hawaii plates; the permanent-registration path and timing vary by island.

    Close Idaho

    After the destination registration is active, submit Idaho's ITD 3438 License Plate Cancellation Request with the moved-out-of-state reason and choose whether to cancel the plate, registration, or both. Keep the submitted form and delivery confirmation before ending the policy that supported the Idaho record.

    End or rewrite the old policy

    Confirm effective dates with both insurers after the old registration is safely closed.
