Switch car insurance from New Mexico to Oklahoma

Activate coverage Oklahoma will accept before the registration transaction. Do not cancel the New Mexicopolicy until the new registration is active and the old record is closed correctly.

    Keep the old record supported

    Keep New Mexico registration-supported coverage active while the vehicle is still recorded there.

  2. 02
    Activate Oklahoma coverage

    Bring proof of an Oklahoma insurance policy that meets state requirements.

  3. 03
    Complete the destination registration

    Register the out-of-state vehicle within 30 days after moving to Oklahoma at Service Oklahoma or a participating Licensed Operator.

    Close New Mexico

    If the New Mexico registration still remains active after the move, do not rely on an out-of-state policy appearing automatically in its insurance database. Submit signed Form MVD-11268 with proof of the out-of-state insurance and residency, and repeat it at each policy renewal for as long as the vehicle remains registered in New Mexico. Keep the affidavit packet and delivery proof with the destination registration.

    End or rewrite the old policy

    Confirm effective dates with both insurers after the old registration is safely closed.
