Switch car insurance from New York to New Hampshire
Activate coverage New Hampshire will accept before the registration transaction. Do not cancel the New Yorkpolicy until the new registration is active and the old record is closed correctly.
- 01Keep the old record supported
Keep New York registration-supported coverage active while the vehicle is still recorded there.
- 02Activate New Hampshire coverage
New Hampshire does not impose a general mandatory auto-insurance requirement on every driver, but financial-responsibility or SR-22 requirements can apply and an uninsured crash can suspend driving privileges. Confirm your own obligation before operating.
- 03Complete the destination registration
Register an owned vehicle used in New Hampshire through the resident's town or city within 60 days after establishing domicile or residence.
- 04Close New York
First activate the new registration, then surrender the New York plates and registration, obtain the FS-6T receipt, and only then end New York coverage. Reversing that order can create a registration and driver-license suspension.
- 05End or rewrite the old policy
Confirm effective dates with both insurers after the old registration is safely closed.
Check the policy for the new home
Home or renters coverage is a separate optional follow-up. It does not replace destination auto insurance.

NewState Drive keeps the state sequence, official requirements, and cancellation warning visible.
The licensed provider collects driver and vehicle details, explains coverage, returns quotes, and handles binding.
You choose the policy and confirm effective dates. A new policy cannot retroactively fix an earlier lapse.
