Switch car insurance from Oklahoma to Hawaii

Activate coverage Hawaii will accept before the registration transaction. Do not cancel the Oklahomapolicy until the new registration is active and the old record is closed correctly.

    Keep the old record supported

    Keep Oklahoma registration-supported coverage active while the vehicle is still recorded there.

    Activate Hawaii coverage

    Arrange Hawaii coverage before the safety-check and registration sequence. County instructions require a Hawaii insurance card for the inspection transaction.

  3. 03
    Complete the destination registration

    Vehicle transactions are county-administered. In Hawaii County, obtain an out-of-state permit within 30 days after the vehicle arrives or switch to Hawaii plates; the permanent-registration path and timing vary by island.

    Close Oklahoma

    After the destination registration and plates are active, remove and keep the Oklahoma plate. Service Oklahoma says the plate is assigned to the person, not the vehicle. Store it securely and keep the destination registration as proof of when the vehicle changed jurisdictions.

    End or rewrite the old policy

    Confirm effective dates with both insurers after the old registration is safely closed.
