Switch car insurance from Oregon to Colorado

Activate coverage Colorado will accept before the registration transaction. Do not cancel the Oregonpolicy until the new registration is active and the old record is closed correctly.

    Keep Oregon registration-supported coverage active while the vehicle is still recorded there.

    Activate Colorado coverage

    Bring proof of Colorado-compliant insurance for the vehicle.

    Complete the destination registration

    Register the vehicle through the county motor vehicle office within 90 days after becoming a resident.

  4. 04
    Close Oregon

    After the destination registration is active, update the address on the Oregon DMV record within 30 days, online or by phone. Oregon does not automatically send a new registration card after an address change, so write the new address on the existing card or request a replacement if you need one. Keep the update confirmation with the new registration.

    End or rewrite the old policy

    Confirm effective dates with both insurers after the old registration is safely closed.
