    Complete the destination registration

    Vehicle transactions are county-administered. In Hawaii County, obtain an out-of-state permit within 30 days after the vehicle arrives or switch to Hawaii plates; the permanent-registration path and timing vary by island.

    Close South Carolina

    First update the vehicle insurer, then complete the destination registration. Return an active South Carolina plate by mail with Form 452 or at an SCDMV branch and retain delivery or counter proof; expired plates do not need to be returned.

    End or rewrite the old policy

    Confirm effective dates with both insurers after the old registration is safely closed.
