Switch car insurance from Wisconsin to Utah
Activate coverage Utah will accept before the registration transaction. Do not cancel the Wisconsinpolicy until the new registration is active and the old record is closed correctly.
- 01Keep the old record supported
Keep Wisconsin registration-supported coverage active while the vehicle is still recorded there.
- 02Activate Utah coverage
Maintain required motor-vehicle liability coverage before operating and registering the vehicle in Utah.
- 03Complete the destination registration
Register the vehicle in Utah within 60 days after meeting a listed residency trigger, including establishing a permanent home, accepting nonseasonal work, or obtaining a Utah license.
- 04Close Wisconsin
After the destination registration is active, check whether the next Wisconsin registration period has begun. Wisconsin does not refund the unused portion when a person moves out after the period starts. If the paid period has not begun, use MV2030 with the original registration certificate and year sticker; otherwise retain the destination registration and do not spend time on an ineligible refund request.
- 05End or rewrite the old policy
Confirm effective dates with both insurers after the old registration is safely closed.
Check the policy for the new home
Home or renters coverage is a separate optional follow-up. It does not replace destination auto insurance.

NewState Drive keeps the state sequence, official requirements, and cancellation warning visible.
The licensed provider collects driver and vehicle details, explains coverage, returns quotes, and handles binding.
You choose the policy and confirm effective dates. A new policy cannot retroactively fix an earlier lapse.
