Switch car insurance from Wyoming to Alaska
Activate coverage Alaska will accept before the registration transaction. Do not cancel the Wyomingpolicy until the new registration is active and the old record is closed correctly.
- 01Keep the old record supported
Keep Wyoming registration-supported coverage active while the vehicle is still recorded there.
- 02Activate Alaska coverage
Keep coverage in force through the move and confirm that the policy satisfies Alaska's requirements before operating the Alaska-registered vehicle.
- 03Complete the destination registration
Apply for Alaska registration within 10 days after entering the state or taking an Alaska job when you intend to establish residency.
- 04Close Wyoming
After the destination registration is active, do not treat the move itself as a registration-refund claim. Wyoming law says fees are not refunded unless they were paid and collected by mistake, except where another law provides otherwise. Keep the new registration with the old payment record and pursue a refund only if a documented exception applies.
- 05End or rewrite the old policy
Confirm effective dates with both insurers after the old registration is safely closed.
Check the policy for the new home
Home or renters coverage is a separate optional follow-up. It does not replace destination auto insurance.

NewState Drive keeps the state sequence, official requirements, and cancellation warning visible.
The licensed provider collects driver and vehicle details, explains coverage, returns quotes, and handles binding.
You choose the policy and confirm effective dates. A new policy cannot retroactively fix an earlier lapse.
