Start with Hyundai Motor Finance's process

The destination state controls registration and still decides what document it can use and where it must go. The lender handles the title it holds, and the two paths need to meet before the state can finish the transfer.

    Ask the destination motor vehicle office what it needs, then update the Hyundai Motor Finance account address before starting the State-to-State Transfer request.

  2. 02Use the approved channel

    If the destination office needs documents from Hyundai Motor Finance, fax your written request or the office's form to (714) 368-7844, or mail it to Hyundai Motor Finance, Attn: Titles Department, 6100 W. Plano Pkwy., Ste 2000, Plano, TX 75093. Include your Hyundai Motor Finance account number, the VIN, a callback number for you, the state you are moving from, your new address, the office's name, address, phone and fax number, and a list of the documents it needs (the title, a letter of permission, a limited power of attorney, or similar). For questions about your account, Hyundai Motor Finance customer service is 800-523-4030 (Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern).

  3. 03Plan for the handoff

    Hyundai says that if your current title is paper, it sends the documents to the motor vehicle office within 10 business days of your request by FedEx three-day shipping. If your title is electronic, Hyundai asks your original state to print it and mail it to Hyundai, and says the entire process can take 4-6 weeks and that how long the paper title takes to arrive is up to the state. A separate Hyundai notice says DMVs are currently taking 45 to 180 days for a number of requests, including state transfers and printing titles. Hyundai recommends staying in contact with the DMV to confirm it received the documents, and notes that some DMVs hold them only for a limited time.
