Everything Hyundai Motor Finance says about payoff
Hyundai Motor Finance says that once a finance account is paid in full it notes its lien release on the vehicle's title and mails it to the primary address on record, unless you designated another address when you paid off online. In states with electronic titles, Hyundai notifies the state DMV, the DMV mails the title free of Hyundai's lien, and Hyundai sends a paid-in-full letter with instructions for requesting a paper title at the DMV if you need one. Its list of electronic-title states is AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, ID, IN, KS, LA, MD, MA, MI, MS, NE, NV, NC, PA, SC, SD, TX, VA, WV, WI. In MO, MN, MT, NY and KY you hold the title already, and Hyundai sends a lien release statement for your local DMV. In IL, MI, MO, NE, PA, RI and VT, Hyundai also mails the original or a copy of the retail installment contract. Another Hyundai FAQ answer says 10 days and 5 days rather than 15 and 10 business days, so ask Hyundai which applies. Hyundai lists lease buyouts under a separate process, so this page covers a paid-off finance account.
Log in to your Hyundai Motor Finance account to request a payoff and designate where the title should be mailed. To send the title or lien release to a different address, call Hyundai Motor Finance at 800-523-4030. To send it to a third party, the primary account holder must give Hyundai written authorization.
If it never arrived: In electronic-title states, Hyundai says to contact your local DMV if you do not receive a paper title within 30 calendar days. In Florida you must ask your local DMV to print the paper title, and state fees apply. In California and Pennsylvania the DMV mails the printed title to the address on your registration. In MO, MN, MT, NY and KY, contact your local DMV if you did not receive a title when you bought the car. Hyundai also says DMVs are currently taking 45 to 180 days for a number of requests, including mailing paid-in-full titles.
Want it in writing? Build a free request letter for your records. It never asks for your VIN or loan number.
