Mississippi lien release

Paid off your car in Mississippi? How the lien comes off the title

A lienholder with a FEIN must release the lien electronically within 14 days after the loan is satisfied, or face a civil penalty of up to $250 per violation; under state law a clear certificate of title is issued to the owner once the last lien is satisfied. For a lien on a paper title, the lienholder must execute a release within 10 days after demand and in any event within 30 days, and the owner then mails or delivers the certificate and release to the state so it can release the lienholder's rights or issue a new certificate. DOR's FAQ also describes a paper-title lien release transaction, where the lienholder releases the lien on the title document itself and notifies the state electronically.
