Paid off your Credit Acceptance loan? Getting the lien release and title
Credit Acceptance says it will typically send the title and lien release documentation within 30 days of payoff. In most states Credit Acceptance holds the title until the contract is paid off or it releases its lien. In Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana and New York the customer receives the title from the motor vehicle department instead, and in Florida, Ohio, Michigan and Oklahoma Credit Acceptance releases the lien electronically and mails a lien release letter.
How to ask Credit Acceptance for the release or title
If nothing arrived, see the next step below.
If Credit Acceptance holds your title, it says it will provide a copy on request. For a lost title or lien release after payoff, call Customer Service. Written title requests go to the Title Department by fax or mail.
If it never arrived: If Credit Acceptance sent the title or lien release and it was lost, Credit Acceptance says it can send a notarized lien release document you can use to apply for a duplicate title without its lien; contact Customer Service. In states where you hold the title, get a duplicate from your motor vehicle department.
