Everything Kia Finance America says about payoff
Kia Finance America says that once a finance account is paid in full it notes its lien release on the title and mails it to the primary address on record, unless you chose another address when paying off online. In electronic-title states, Kia notifies the state DMV, the DMV mails the title free of Kia's lien, and Kia sends a paid-in-full letter that explains how to request a paper title at the DMV. Kia lists these electronic-title states: AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, ID, IN, KS, LA, MD, MA, MI, MS, NE, NV, NC, PA, SC, SD, TX, VA, WV, WI. In MO, MN, MT, NY and KY the title is mailed to you at purchase, so Kia sends a lien release statement to take to your local DMV. In IL, MI, MO, NE, PA, RI and VT it also mails the original or a copy of the retail installment contract, as required by law. Another answer in Kia's FAQ gives 10 days and 5 days instead of 15 and 10 business days, so confirm with Kia which applies. Lease buyouts have a separate Kia process, so this page covers a paid-off finance account.
Log in to your Kia Finance America account to request a payoff and pay off online, where you can also designate the address for the title. To have the title or lien release mailed to a different address, call Kia Finance America at 866-331-5632. To have it mailed to a third party, the primary account holder must give Kia written authorization.
If it never arrived: In electronic-title states, Kia says to contact your local DMV if you do not receive a paper title within 30 calendar days. In Florida you must contact your local DMV to have the paper title printed, and state fees apply. In California and Pennsylvania the DMV mails the printed title to the address on your registration. In MO, MN, MT, NY and KY, contact your local DMV if you never received a title after buying the car. Kia also says DMVs are currently taking 45 to 180 days for a number of requests, including mailing paid-in-full titles.
