Arizona boat and trailer move

Move a Boat and Trailer to Arizona

Register the motorized watercraft through Arizona Game and Fish and its highway trailer through MVD without combining their ownership records or identifiers.

Use this order

Prepare the boat and trailer before the office visit

The government instructions are free. We show a private provider only when it is authorized for this vehicle and task.

  1. 1. Check when the application becomes due

A nonresident may operate a currently numbered out-of-state watercraft in Arizona for up to 90 days. That exception is not an Arizona-resident grace period; complete the Game and Fish record when it no longer applies and register the trailer as soon as residency applies.

  2. 2. Prepare the correct ownership record

For a used boat from another state, provide the original title if that state titles watercraft or the original registration if it does not, together with the Arizona application, ownership signatures, and any required bill of sale.

  3. 3. Complete identification and inspection

Game and Fish requires a hull-identification inspection for a homemade boat or a post-August-1972 boat without a conforming HIN. Its road trailer separately follows MVD title review and the 3,000-pound brake rule.

  4. 4. Register the correct vehicle class

Arizona requires registration for every motorboat, including a sailboat, canoe, or inflatable with a gas or electric motor. The first new Arizona watercraft registration is valid for 12 months; qualifying documented vessels and lifeboats follow separate exceptions.

Vehicle classification

Check the exact vehicle class

Carry a properly sized Coast Guard-approved life jacket for each person. Children 12 and younger must wear one while underway, and personal-watercraft riders have a separate wear requirement.
