Move a Trailer to Arizona
Prepare the trailer's Arizona title and registration from its ownership record, use, declared gross weight, and brake equipment.
Prepare the trailer before the office visit
The government instructions are free. We show a private provider only when it is authorized for this vehicle and task.
- 1. Check when the application becomes due
Title and register the trailer as soon as Arizona residency applies. The tow vehicle's Arizona plate and insurance record do not replace the trailer's separate ownership and registration transaction.
- 2. Prepare the correct ownership record
Submit the Title and Registration Application with the out-of-state title or other accepted ownership record. MVD can require a VIN inspection when the title, registration, identification number, or construction history is incomplete or unusual.
- 3. Complete identification and inspection
Arizona requires brakes on a trailer with a gross weight of 3,000 pounds or more, including a system that applies them if the trailer breaks away. Trailer title inspection is document-driven, and a trailer has no engine emissions test.
- 4. Register the correct vehicle class
A personal-use trailer with a declared gross weight of 10,000 pounds or less can receive permanent noncommercial registration after the owner certifies that it is not used for a business or commercial enterprise. Use or weight changes can change the fee and registration class.
Check the exact vehicle class
A boat and its highway trailer are separate records. Arizona Game and Fish handles the motorized watercraft, while MVD titles and registers the trailer according to its own use and declared weight.
