Move an RV or Motorhome to Wisconsin

A drivable motorhome becomes subject to Wisconsin title and registration when residency begins, without a separate new-resident plate grace period. Transfer the regular driver license within 60 days. A towable travel trailer, fifth wheel, or camping trailer follows Wisconsin's trailer weight and use rules instead.

For a motorhome, submit the original out-of-state title through eMV Public or with Form MV1. Use Wisconsin's registration-only path when a lender controls the title. A towable RV is titled as a trailer when its loaded gross weight or commercial use makes registration mandatory.

A normally titled motorhome has no routine physical inspection, and the Wisconsin motorhome plate class is outside the emissions program. A converted unit that remains registered as an auto or light truck can still need emissions testing within 45 days when kept in one of the seven covered southeastern counties.

Motorhome registration is weight-based and may be annual or quarterly; annual motorhome registrations expire March 31. Wisconsin defines a motor home as a self-propelled dwelling, while travel trailers, fifth wheels, camping trailers, and park models use the recreational-vehicle-trailer class and its separate registration treatment.
