Bridge the New Mexico insurance record while its registration remains active

If the New Mexico registration still remains active after the move, do not rely on an out-of-state policy appearing automatically in its insurance database. Submit signed Form MVD-11268 with proof of the out-of-state insurance and residency, and repeat it at each policy renewal for as long as the vehicle remains registered in New Mexico. Keep the affidavit packet and delivery proof with the destination registration.

Why the order matters

The wrong order can get expensive

New Mexico warns that an unresolved insurance mismatch can suspend the registration. After a suspension notice, the owner must return the registration and plate within 10 days; reinstatement after insurance is reported costs $30.
