What the lender says

Start with Genesis Finance's process

The destination state controls registration and still decides what document it can use and where it must go. The lender handles the title it holds, and the two paths need to meet before the state can finish the transfer.

How to submit
Online (Title Services, then State Title Transfer, with its Title Tracker) or by mail to the Plano, TX Titles Department.
Paper title
Sent to the motor vehicle office within 10 business days of your request.
Electronic title
Genesis asks your original state to print it. The entire process can take 4-6 weeks; how long the paper title takes to arrive is up to the state.
Separate DMV notice
Genesis's notice: DMVs are currently taking 45 to 180 days for requests including state transfers and printing titles.

    Ask the destination motor vehicle office for its requirements, then update every applicable address in the Genesis Finance account before opening a state-to-state title transfer.

  2. 02Use the approved channel

    Log in to Genesis Finance, open Title Services, and choose State Title Transfer. Genesis says submitting online also gives you its Title Tracker. You can mail the request instead to Genesis Finance, Attn: Titles Department, 6100 W. Plano Pkwy., Ste 2000, Plano, TX 75093. For questions about your account, Genesis Finance customer service is 844-363-7477 (Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern).

  3. 03Plan for the handoff

    Genesis says that if your title is paper, it sends the documents to the motor vehicle office within 10 business days of your request. If your title is electronic, Genesis asks your original state to print it and mail it to Genesis, and says the entire process can take 4-6 weeks and that how long the paper title takes to arrive is up to the state. A separate Genesis notice says DMVs are currently taking 45 to 180 days for a number of requests, including state transfers and printing titles.
