Move an RV or Motorhome to Michigan

Apply for the motorhome title and registration as soon as Michigan residency begins. There is no new-resident grace period, so obtain Michigan no-fault insurance and arrange the Secretary of State visit before relying on the prior registration.

Bring the original out-of-state title and the complete ownership chain. If an out-of-state lienholder keeps the title, use Michigan's accepted registration or title evidence for Foreign Ownership-Registration Only. A two-stage motorhome can require both manufacturer origin records so the chassis and completed body remain traceable.

Michigan's standard new-resident packet does not list a routine motorhome inspection. Reconcile the VIN, body description, manufacturer records, and current title before the visit because an assembled, rebuilt, or identity problem can trigger a separate inspection and title process.

Bring Michigan no-fault insurance, identification, ownership evidence, and each owner or an Appointment of Agent form. Register a towed car, trailer, motorcycle, or boat trailer on its own record rather than treating it as part of the motorhome transaction.
