Move a Boat and Trailer to Georgia
Register the vessel through Georgia DNR and its highway trailer through the County Tag Office without combining their titles, identifiers, or deadlines.
Prepare the boat and trailer before the office visit
The government instructions are free. We show a private provider only when it is authorized for this vehicle and task.
- 1. Check when the application becomes due
An out-of-state registration remains valid for up to 60 consecutive days of boat use in Georgia. Complete the Georgia vessel registration before that period ends, and handle the trailer within the 30-day new-resident vehicle window.
- 2. Prepare the correct ownership record
Georgia is an eTitle state for vessels. Provide the prior state's title or registration record and the ownership chain that Georgia DNR requires; a previously issued paper title remains the controlling ownership document.
- 3. Complete identification and inspection
Match the hull identification number and ownership documents to the vessel application. Online, telephone, and qualifying mail applications can provide temporary proof for up to 60 days while the registration is processed.
- 4. Register the correct vehicle class
Register every mechanically propelled vessel used on Georgia public waters and every sailboat 12 feet or longer. Vessel registrations run for three calendar years, while the boat trailer follows the separate motor-vehicle registration path.
Check the exact vehicle class
Georgia DNR handles the boat and its eTitle. The County Tag Office registers the trailer, and Georgia does not issue the trailer a motor-vehicle title merely because it carries a titled vessel.
