Move an RV or Motorhome to Georgia

Register an out-of-state motorhome while keeping its title, insurance, license, tow vehicle, and trailer records separate.

The government instructions are free. We show a private provider only when it is authorized for this vehicle and task.

  1. 1. Check when the application becomes due

Register the motorhome within 30 days after moving to Georgia. Obtain a Georgia driver license or ID before visiting the County Tag Office.

  2. 2. Prepare the correct ownership record

Use Form MV-1 with the original out-of-state title or the accepted registration from a non-title jurisdiction. Add Form T-17 when a lender, security-interest holder, or leasing company holds the title.

  3. 3. Complete identification and inspection

Georgia exempts recreational vehicles and motorhomes from emissions testing for registration, including in the metro Atlanta emissions counties.

  4. 4. Register the correct vehicle class

Apply through the County Tag Office with the ownership record, Georgia identification, insurance evidence, and applicable title, registration, and tax amounts. Keep any towed vehicle or trailer on its own record.

Vehicle classification

Check the exact vehicle class

A noncommercial Class C license covers an RV equipped as temporary living quarters and used only for family or personal travel, regardless of its weight. Commercial or other use changes the license analysis.
