Georgia motorcycle move

Move a Motorcycle to Georgia

Title and register an out-of-state motorcycle in Georgia without applying passenger-car emissions rules or overlooking the rider's separate license.

Prepare the motorcycle before the office visit

The government instructions are free. We show a private provider only when it is authorized for this vehicle and task.

  1. 1. Check when the application becomes due

Register the motorcycle within 30 days after moving to Georgia. Obtain a Georgia driver license or ID first because the County Tag Office needs it before the title and registration application.

  2. 2. Prepare the correct ownership record

Use Form MV-1 with the original out-of-state title. If the prior state does not title that motorcycle and model year, use the accepted registration record; if a lender or leasing company holds the title, include Form T-17.

  3. 3. Complete identification and inspection

Georgia exempts motorcycles from emissions testing for registration, including in the 13 metro Atlanta emissions counties.

  4. 4. Register the correct vehicle class

Apply at the County Tag Office with the ownership record, Georgia identification, insurance evidence, and applicable fees and taxes. The motorcycle keeps its own title and plate record.

Vehicle classification

Check the exact vehicle class

Registration does not authorize the rider. Georgia uses a Class M license or MP permit for motorcycles and motor-driven cycles of 51cc or more.
