Move a Trailer to Georgia
Use the trailer's weight, construction, and prior ownership record to choose Georgia's title, registration, serial-plate, and tax path.
Prepare the trailer before the office visit
The government instructions are free. We show a private provider only when it is authorized for this vehicle and task.
- 1. Check when the application becomes due
Register the trailer within 30 days after moving to Georgia and apply at the County Tag Office. The trailer is a separate record from its tow vehicle.
- 2. Prepare the correct ownership record
Georgia does not issue a motor-vehicle title for a boat trailer, homemade trailer, fifth wheel, pole trailer, or trailer weighing 2,000 pounds or less. Use the applicable out-of-state ownership record for a trailer that does require a title.
- 3. Complete identification and inspection
A homemade trailer needs a county-assigned serial plate before registration. Submit Form T-23, rivet the plate to the trailer, and have a Georgia law-enforcement officer certify the installation on Form T-22C.
- 4. Register the correct vehicle class
A no-title trailer still needs the registration documents the County Tag Office requires. Non-titled vehicles and trailers are exempt from title ad valorem tax but remain subject to annual ad valorem tax.
Check the exact vehicle class
A boat and its highway trailer use separate agencies and identifiers. Georgia DNR handles the vessel, while the County Tag Office handles the trailer.
