  1. 1. Check when the application becomes due

    Apply for Missouri title and registration within 60 days after the boat, vessel, or separately titled outboard motor is purchased or brought into Missouri. The highway trailer follows its own 30-day vehicle-title path.

  2. 2. Prepare the correct ownership record

    Title every motorized boat and every sailboat longer than 12 feet with Form 93 and the assigned title, manufacturer statement, qualifying bill of sale, or dealer-certified application. Missouri also separately titles and registers an outboard motor unless it is a trolling motor or electric outboard.

  3. 3. Complete identification and inspection

    Match the 12-character hull identification number, vessel description, engine information, and ownership documents before filing. A missing, altered, salvage, or disputed identity can require the Highway Patrol watercraft verification and Form 798 rather than the ordinary counter transaction. Title the road trailer separately by VIN.

  4. 4. Register the correct vehicle class

    Register each covered vessel and bring the prior-year personal property tax receipt or statement of non-assessment. Missouri cannot issue a state title to a Coast Guard documented vessel, but the owner uses Form 4398 and the federal ownership evidence for a Missouri documented-vessel certificate of registration.

An operator born after January 1, 1984 must carry a Missouri boater safety identification card, or a home-state card from a NASBLA-approved course, while operating a motorized vessel on Missouri lakes. A Missouri resident may add the boater indicator to the state driver license instead of carrying a separate card.
