Move a Motorcycle to Missouri

  1. 1. Check when the application becomes due

    Apply for the Missouri title within 30 days after becoming a resident. Apply for the Missouri driver license as soon as residency begins and make sure the transferred credential retains the motorcycle M endorsement before riding.

  2. 2. Prepare the correct ownership record

    File Form 108 with the original out-of-state title. If a lienholder keeps it, send Form 5834 and obtain the lienholder's notarized refusal plus an accepted title copy, electronic-title receipt, or electronic-title statement before applying.

  3. 3. Complete identification and inspection

    Complete the required Missouri VIN and odometer inspection at an authorized station; a qualifying safety inspection satisfies it. A safety inspection no more than 60 days old is also required when the motorcycle is not exempt, but cycles are exempt from Missouri emissions inspection even in the St. Louis program area.

  4. 4. Register the correct vehicle class

    Bring current insurance, the Missouri title packet, and a paid prior-year personal property tax receipt or county or St. Louis statement of non-assessment. A motorcycle owned and operated in another state for at least 90 days generally avoids additional Missouri sales tax; a shorter ownership period can require the Missouri tax difference.

A current out-of-state license, or one expired no more than 184 days, can waive Missouri's written and skills tests when the class and endorsements are verified. The road-sign and vision tests still apply. If the M endorsement is missing or cannot be verified, Missouri's motorcycle testing path applies.
