  1. 1. Check when the application becomes due

    Register the motorcycle as soon as Massachusetts residency begins because the RMV provides no new-resident grace period. Convert the out-of-state Class M or combined D and M license when residency begins, then complete the Massachusetts motorcycle inspection within seven days after registration.

  2. 2. Prepare the correct ownership record

    Bring the out-of-state title or, when a lienholder keeps it, the current registration plus an accepted title copy, security agreement, or recent motor-vehicle-agency owner record. A vehicle coming from New York, Kentucky, Minnesota, Maryland, Missouri, or Montana still requires the physical title even when a lien exists.

  3. 3. Complete identification and inspection

    Have the motorcycle inspected within seven days after Massachusetts registration and annually after that. Motorcycle inspections must be completed by a licensed Class M motorcycle inspection station.

  4. 4. Register the correct vehicle class

    Obtain a Massachusetts policy and have the licensed insurance agent complete, stamp, and sign the Registration and Title Application. Use MVU-29 when the motorcycle qualifies for the moving-resident sales-tax exemption, then complete the RMV transaction before riding on the out-of-state registration as a resident.

An active out-of-state Class M license, or one expired for less than one year, transfers without the written and road tests. A license expired for more than one year requires the full tests and an eye test, so resolve the credential before assuming the endorsement will carry over.
