  1. 1. Check when the application becomes due

    Obtain the Nevada driver license and register the motorcycle within 30 days after becoming a resident. Nevada's registration rule also makes the registration due when the Nevada license is obtained if that happens earlier.

  2. 2. Prepare the correct ownership record

    Bring the out-of-state title unless a lienholder holds it. When ownership is not changing, Nevada lets the owner retain the out-of-state title; keep it safe because the prior state may have to replace it before a later sale. A licensed financial institution's security agreement can support registration when it controls the title.

  3. 3. Complete identification and inspection

    Complete a VIN inspection for the motorcycle because it has not previously been registered or titled in Nevada. A DMV station, participating office, law-enforcement officer, or authorized business can complete the Vehicle Inspection Certificate VP 015. Motorcycles are exempt from both emissions inspection and odometer reporting.

  4. 4. Register the correct vehicle class

    Register the motorcycle under the same basic rules as a car or truck. Bring the current registration and plates and obtain liability insurance from a Nevada-licensed carrier in the exact names shown on the registration and title; out-of-state insurance is not accepted.

Nevada lists motorcycle authority as Class M and transfers motorcycle endorsements and Class M licenses from most other states. A first-time Class M applicant completes an approved safety course or the DMV written and skills tests. Nevada also requires approved helmet and eye protection while riding.
